Mooney Shines in Mansfield Tournament

Pflugerville senior forward/wing Christie Mooney scored a game-high 19 points and had a season-best 10 rebounds in an opening round 68-77 loss to Grapevine in the opening round of the Meredith Hatch Memorial Mansfield Rotary Invitational on Monday. Mooney had 3 steals and 1 assists while hitting a near-perfect 8-of-9 from 2-point range

In the consolation-bracket on Tuesday, Mooney scored a team-high 24 points and game-high tying 8 steals in a 60-41 win over Mckinney Boyd. Mooney, who was one of two Lady Panthers to score in double digits, also contributed 8 rebounds.

In a 3-point loss to Huntsville, Mooney scored a team-high 14 points. Mooney had 5 rebounds, 6 steals and 2 assists in the 54-57 loss. The senior forward, who leads the state-ranked Lady Panthers in scoring (14.1 ppg), assists (1.8 per game), and blocks (1 per game), is the second-leading scorer in district 25-5A.

Mooney will lead the Lady Panthers (13-7) against Austin Anderson on Saturday, January 2nd. Tipoff in 2:00PM.

Mooney Scores Game-High 19 in Westlake Win



Senior forward Christie Mooney (#12 in white) scored a game-high 19 points in a 69-53 district win over Westlake (TX).

Down by 9 to the Lady Chaps to open the game, the Lady Panthers looked to their top scorer for a spark as Mooney scored 7 of the team's first 11 points to keep the game close. Pflugerville took the lead early in the second quarter and never relinquished it.

The second-leading scorer in District 5A-25, Mooney shot 8-for-12 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free throw line. She also added 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 block. Throughout the night, the 5-9 forward used her speed to drive to basket against the taller Westlake post players.

Mooney and the state-ranked Lady Panthers (14-2) take on Grapevine (TX) Monday night, December 28th.

Leading scorer Christie Mooney will lead the Pflugerville Lady Panthers (13-2, ranked 7th in Texas 5A) in a district 25 tilt against the Westlake Lady Chaparrals(15-4). Mooney is the second-leading scorer in district 25-5A with a 13.6 point per game average.

Last week, Mooney averaged 13 points in 3 games to help the Lady Panthers take their third-straight Hays Rebel Classic Championship. The Lady Chaps, meanwhile, claimed the Pride of Texas Tournament championship.

Mooney Helps Panthers to Tournament Finals


Senior small forward Christie Mooney scored a game-high 16 points in a 66-36 win against Vista Ridge in the opening round of the Hays Rebel Classic Thursday. The versatile forward also contributed a season-high 9 rebounds. Mooney's previous high in rebounds had been 7 against Harker Heights in the season opener.

In the second round of the Hays Classic against Weatherford, Mooney scored 12 points in a dominating 81-60 victory. In a thrilling overtime victory against Flower Mound Marcus for a spot in the championship, Mooney contributed 13 points, bringing her scoring average to 13.0 for the tournament. The win improved the Lady Panther's season record to 12-2 and helped the team maintain its top 5A ranking in Texas.

Mooney (#12 Blue) contributes 10 in blowout win over Leander



Pflugerville Lady Panthers senior forward Christie Mooney scored 10 points in a 56-33 blowout of the Leander Lions on Friday night.

Mooney, who entered the game ranked 35th in scoring average in Texas 5A, scored all but two of her points in the first half. Although Mooney scored below her 14.8 average, she contributed in other areas with 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Mooney closed the first half with a buzzer-beating three-pointer from the corner. She was also one of three Lady Panthers players to score in double digits.

The win snapped a two-game slide for the Lady Panthers (8-2) who came off a close 66-63 loss to top-ranked Bryan (TX) on Tuesday night in which Mooney scored a season-high 21 points. The Lady Panthers next take on Bastrop (TX) on Tuesday, December 8th, in Bastrop. Tipoff is 7PM.

Senior small forward Christie Mooney (#12) of the Pflugerville Lady Panthers (7-2) reached a team- and season-high 21 points in a 66-63 loss to Bryan (TX) (11-1) Tuesday night in Pflugerville.

In the first half, Mooney's pass block with 4:30 in the first quarter sparked a Lady Panthers comeback from an early double-digit deficit. Mooney's two free throws with 2:54 to play in the first half gave the Lady Panthers their first lead of the game, 31-30. Mooney finished the first half with 11 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists.

In the second half, the lone senior starter challenged the heart of an aggressive Lady Vikings defense to reach the free throw line where she was a perfect 8 for 8. Each of Mooney's free throw conversions either tied the score or gave the Lady Panthers the lead in the second half. Mooney's 11-of-12 performance from the charity stripe was her best of the season. On the season, Mooney has hit 33 of a team-high 44free throw attempts

Mooney,the Lady Panthers' top scorer with a 14.8 ppg average,finished the night with 21 points, 2 rebounds and 4 assists. Mooney will try to get the Lady Panthers on the winning path again at Leander High School Friday night, December 4. Tipoff is 7PM.



Game Preview: Bryan (TX) December 1, 2009


Leading scorer Christie Mooney and the Pflugerville Lady Panthers (7-1) will take on the Lady Vikings of Bryan (10-1) tomorrow night at 7PM at the Pflugerville High Gymnasium. Mooney enters the game between the two one-loss teams averaging 14.1 points per game. The senior small forward leads the team in total points with 113 and is tied for the team lead for three-point field goal percentage (50%). Mooney is coming off a season-low 9 point performance in a 56-53 loss to Hewitt-Midway last Tuesday, which snapped the Lady Panthers seven-game win streak.
